Episode 30

Like every work environment there are power struggles in the airline industry.  You have stand offs between the Flight Attendants and passengers, the Captains and First Officers and Flight Attendants with each other.  Now on paper that probably doesn't sound funny...but it really is.

At the end of the episode I tell about a Show Down that I regularly have with passengers on the airplane.

NelsonD - not too sure what you mean by that comment...

I put a lot of my heart and soul into every single person that steps on my aircraft. They aren\\\'t just getting on a plane, they are getting on my plane - no different than if I had invited them into my home.

Now the behaviour of your crew mates in hiding shoes - completely unacceptable and I would have reported that without a question. I, of course, would have told them first of my intentions but that behaviour is not excusable!

I am a F/A too and I totally agree with the trash cart bit. I mean sometimes I just want to scream \\\"Hand it to me!\\\" but of course I never would. These are just some of the timgs I think in my head sometimes. I really enjoy your podcast! :)

If any flight attendant stole my shoes, I would defiantly file a complaint with the airline and the FAA. Something like that did happen on a major airline between where I live and Chicago, the flight attendants were fired and I think arrested for theft. That was long before the 911 days.

OK I have a few ideas and comments after listening to this episode and I might ruffle a few feathers here but hey I am good at that!

I know where you are coming from Betty when you are talking about NOT blocking that back row of seats; its all about customer perceptions and providing for our customers.

Now fasten your seat belt because here comes my BUT....

Those people paid for a SEAT from point A to point B - not a whole row to sleep on. Why is it fair for them to BOLT for that row and sleep prone while everyone else has to sleep sitting up?

OK if it is a very empty flight and their assigned row is empty - WHOO HOO luck of the draw, have at it!

But I don\\\'t think it is all that \\\"crazy\\\" for FAs to have a spot to sit, eat their packed lunch/dinner/breakfast without balancing it on their knee, when someone did NOT pay for that seat or that row of seats!

Now the behaviour of your crew mates in hiding shoes - completely unacceptable and I would have reported that without a question. I, of course, would have told them first of my intentions but that behaviour is not excusable!

Not really sure how it works at your airline but this past pairing while I was in-charge I had a very cranky insubordinate crew member and her behaviour was not appropriate at all, I told her as such and said that I would be following up.

This job is not about the glamour and priviledge anymore but it is not one to be taken lightly.

When a passenger ticks you off - Kill Them With Kindness.

OH and sometime I have to share with you my story about GARBAGE, a PASSENGER and a MEDICAL EMERGENCY.

Wonders never cease!

Dear Betty, Thank you for putting so much into your podcast. I look forward to each one and I especially like it when you include a radio interview. Your stories always make me laugh. Whenever I fly on business I think \"I wonder if she\'s Betty?\" Sadly...I usually end up with a Turnip. Betty For President!
